Gumz, Doris (Marriage - 13 June 1959)

Miss Doris Gumz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gumz of Abbotsford, and James Philip Apfelbeck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Apfelbeck of Colby, Wisconsin were united in marriage in St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby Saturday at 9:00 A.M. Rev. John Pinion officiated and the church choir sang.

The bride wore a floor-length gown of Chantilly lace and net ruffles over satin styled with a Sabrina neckline trimmed in sea pearls and sequins. Her illusion finger-tip length veil was attached to a head-piece of pearls and sequins. She carried a cascade bouquet of garnet roses and white stephanotis.

Miss Karen Robida of Stetsonville was maid of honor and Miss Patricia Gumz of Milan and Miss Virginia Apfelbeck of Colby were bridesmaids. Gwen Robida of Stetsonville was flower girl. The attendants wore floor-length nylon net gowns fashioned of tiers of lace, with full skirts and stoles topping the fitted bodices. Their picture hats matched their dresses which were in orchid, Nile green and yellow. They carried colonial bouquets of white and shaded carnations to match their dresses.

Clem Apfelbeck of Colby was his brother’s best man and the groomsmen were Arvin Apfelbeck of Colby and Lester Gumz of Chicago. Herbert Endries of Spencer was ring bearer.

Leo Apfelbeck and Leon Apfelbeck and Warren Burg were ushers.

Following the ceremony a dinner and supper was served at the church hall and a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents. A dance was held in the evening at Memorial Hall in Dorchester, Wis.
